The Doctor’s Cave Beach is situated along Montego Bay’s “Hip Strip,” which is to the north west of the island of Jamaica.
How it got its name
Dr. McCatty, who had founded a sanatorium in 1880, accessed this private beach along with his colleagues, through a cave. This is how it got its present name.
History
In 1906 the beach was donated to the community of Montego Bay. An exclusive members only “Doctor’s Cave Bathing Club” was founded and is still in operation today.
This beach is known for the mineral properties in the water and is said to have therapeutic values, thanks to Sir Herbert Baker who, in 1920 wrote an article about it after his personal experience there.
